Installation
DataRaft currently requires R 4.2 or later. It is a development package family, so installation comes from GitHub rather than CRAN.
Start with the metapackage
For most readers:
install.packages("pak")
pak::pak("dataraft-r/dataraft")The metapackage installs the core components used by the common workflow and reexports the small beginner-facing surface.
Install components explicitly
For extension development or a deliberately smaller dependency set:
pak::pak(c(
"dataraft-r/dataraft.core",
"dataraft-r/dataraft.adapters",
"dataraft-r/dataraft.lake"
))Optional features have optional dependencies. Examples include duckdb for lake storage, Arrow for Parquet workflows, pins for pins adapters, RPostgres for PostgreSQL registries, and Pointblank for the optional quality engine.
Reproduce the version used by this book
The book audit records exact source revisions in AUDIT.md. Its CI installs the implemented packages at those revisions through scripts/install-dataraft.R before it runs the example tests.
Pinning matters for a development package family. Installing main later may give you a newer API than the one documented in a historical copy of the book.
Run the companion example
From the book root:
Rscript scripts/verify-examples.R
Rscript examples/insurance-platform/run.RThe first command runs the book’s self-contained example tests. The second performs the complete local workflow and writes a versioned RDS release below examples/insurance-platform/releases/.
Build the book
With Quarto and R installed:
quarto renderThe HTML book is the primary format. PDF is also configured. A fallback build is available for environments without R or Quarto:
bash scripts/build-fallback.shThe fallback renders the manuscript and static diagrams but does not execute R. Use the native Quarto build or CI when you need executable verification.
